A few big names left Project Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 including lead writer Brian Mitsoada and creative director Ka’ai Cluney in August, now a new name has been added to this list with lead narrative designer Cara Ellison. . When the first two pilots left Hardsuit Labs details were lacking, but the departing developers hinted that the split wasn’t a sweet pain. After confirming by publisher Paradox Interactive that Ellison was no longer a part of the upcoming Masquerade game, eagle-eyed fans quickly noticed that she quickly removed all mention of the game from her online presence. “We can confirm that Cara Ellison has decided to leave Hardsuit Labs and is no longer working on Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2,” a Paradox spokesperson said in a statement to PC Gamer. “Cara brought new ideas to the project and many of her contributions will be featured in the game’s launch next year. We thank her for her work on Bloodlines 2 and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors.” While it’s odd to effectively cleanse the game of existence from one’s personal presence, it’s not necessarily uncommon for a lead narrative designer to move on to other projects if their part of the job is done. Does this happen every time? No, but it is not unknown. That being said, the split between the big three developers over the game’s creative direction is suspect, especially given Mitsoada’s confirmed “sudden termination”. Given that Bloodlines 2 has been pushed back to 2021, this suggests, however, that the narrative work may not be done. It will be interesting to see the future direction of this game with so many creative avenues that are no longer part of the project as a whole.
