Source: Riot Games Riot Games posted a blog post on the League of Legends website outlining the developer’s approach for the 2021 preseason. The preseason usually starts in December, but the annual LoL adjustments are a process of several months by observation and analysis of the previous season. Riot shared some of his plans, mostly in the form of item tweaks and what they aim to achieve for each respective champion class. Riot Games first revealed details for the 2021 preseason in June, featuring current item icons from Nashor’s Tooth, Ravenous Hydra, Phage, Rapid Firecannon, Sanguine Blade, Pickaxe, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Needlessly Large Rod darkened and desaturated to highlight them. Next season’s new item icons for Iceborn Gauntlet, Trinity Force, Archange’s Staff, Abyssal Mask, Maw of Malmortius, Tear of the Goddess, Twin Shadows, Ionian Boots of Lucidity, and Frozen Heart. However, Riot Games revealed much more than just visuals and previews in its new update. Highlights include adjusting Jungle Items to self-upgrade like Support Items have been doing since early 2020, more solid first item picks for Snipers, and more custom picks for the AD Assassins and AP Fighters niche champion classes. In general, Riot aims to customize each class with a specific nuance and purpose, as opposed to multiple classes building the same elements. Magic resistance items will be more varied, for example, but a “dream” item is also in the works for long-range artillery mages to boost their strengths. The elements aren’t the only thing to change either. The cooldown reduction is getting a complete overhaul by being converted to Ability Haste, a severe damage specialization in response to the healing creep of recent seasons, and the tenacity will now apply to knockdowns as well as other forms of crowd control by reducing airborne time. Source: Riot Games UPDATE 10/18: RiotScruffy confirmed in a Tweet that the change in Tenacity to allow it to apply to knockups in the same way as other forms of crowd control has been removed from the PBE from League of Legends. While the dev team may revisit the change in the future, it’s not currently in the plans for the 2021 preseason.
