Commenting on the partnership, Tawanda Masawi, CEO and Co-Founder of GameSeta, said, “Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, schools are looking to provide opportunities for high school students to participate, and esports is a great option. Our value proposition continues to strengthen during [the COVID-19 pandemic], which explains our oversubscribed waiting list in schools in all provinces of Canada. Jordan Abney, Executive Director of BCSS, said, “We are delighted to partner with a British Columbia-based company in GameSeta. Esports is a new frontier for BCSS, but we thank our board of directors who felt it was important to explore all options for involving students with their school. There is a mountain of evidence to suggest that good things happen to young people when there is a sense of belonging, responsibility and community in their school. If we can bring this to students who would not normally participate in school sport, then it is a great thing for our member schools. We like that this is a 5v5 team strategy game. [and will] offer many of the same educational and growth opportunities as any traditional team sport. We know GameSeta will be a great partner and together we will provide a great experience for our students. Esports Insider says: In the United States and Canada, there is a clear path for those who want to become professionals in sports: to excel in high school; receive a scholarship to attend university; Go Pro. A major challenge for growth in esports is, in certain regions, the lack of infrastructure to find talent. This, together with the traditional model of sporting success in North America, makes this type of partnership necessary to ensure the success of esports in the region.
